Two ferry districts, one archipelago that fans out from a single quay
Farte's ferry operation covers Brevik and Kragerø. The Kragerø side is the one most visitors meet: services fan out from the town quay to Tåtøy, Langøy, Jomfruland, Stabbestad and Portør, with the same handful of vessels covering different destinations through the day. MF Kragerø and MF Jomfruland work the longer runs to Jomfruland, Stabbestad and Portør; BF Jesper covers the shorter hops to Tåtøy and Langøy.
That vessel-sharing matters when something goes wrong. When Farte cancelled a two-hour window for a staff funeral, the notice had to list departures boat by boat rather than route by route — because one vessel's absence takes out several destinations at once.
The cheapest fare is in the ferry app, and a period ticket spans bus and boat
Farte is direct about this: the lowest price is always in the Farte Ferge app. Separately, a period ticket bought in the main Farte app is valid on both bus and ferry, which makes island commuting from Kragerø a single purchase rather than two.
PDF timetables are published, but Farte's own recommendation is to search the journey planner on its front page instead, because that is where cancellations and deviations appear.
