AKT lists the connections it took responsibility for in the Flekkefjord area, and it does so with enough detail to plan around:
- Route 296, Kvellandsstrand–Launes — about 7 minutes, worked by M/F Rosfjord, capacity 146 passengers and 35 cars.
- Route 297, Abelnes–Andabeløy — about 7 minutes, worked by M/F Lafjord, capacity 99 passengers and 10 cars.
The 10-car figure on Abelnes–Andabeløy is the number to note. On a summer weekend that fills quickly, and there is no reservation system to fall back on.
The Arendal city ferries belong to a 133-year-old company
AKT lists the Hisøy–Arendal service in its Arendal-area timetables, but links straight out to the carrier's own site rather than publishing a PDF — because the boats belong to Actieselskabet Kolbjørn, which operates MF Kolbjørn across the harbour between Kolbjørnsvik and Tyholmen. The separate Skilsø service runs under the same operation.
The company is genuinely old and genuinely shareholder-owned. Its 133rd annual general meeting was held in February 2026 at the Arendal Seamen's Association, attended by 75 shareholders who approved the accounts and elected board members. Shares still change hands — the company notes that it receives enquiries from people wanting to buy in, and that many others do not realise they or a deceased relative already hold shares.
The operator publishes its own service notices, and they are unusually direct. When the drive shaft broke as the ferry reversed out of Tyholmen at 17:15 on 15 May 2026, the rescue vessel was called and towed it in; the boat was back for Norway's national day on 17 May. Spring refit, Easter sailing plans and altered timetables during Arendalsuka are all posted the same way. Electrified — and free with a tag, for now
The Agder ferry connections have been electrified. Payment runs through the national AutoPASS system, as on the crossings to Hidra and Andabeløy, but AKT states the current position plainly: carrying an AutoPASS tag means free travel on the Flekkefjord-area ferries for the time being. The wording is deliberately provisional, so it is worth re-checking rather than assuming it holds indefinitely.
Public holidays follow a published substitution table
Rather than cancelling on holidays, AKT swaps in a different day's timetable, and it names the days. Sunday timetable applies on New Year's Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, both Easter days, 1 May, Ascension Day, both Whitsun days and both Christmas days — with the 04:00 and 04:10 departures excepted on both routes.
Saturday timetable applies on 17 May, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. On Christmas Eve the departures between 18:00 and 20:00 are additionally cancelled. This is the kind of substitution that a PDF timetable will not show you, and AKT's own advice is to check the journey planner, which carries the deviations.
